Everything you need to know for June 8

Here’s a sure-fire way to get the most out of the CHEO BBQ. Have a gander at this list before heading to Shefford Park on Saturday!

DonationsDonate now! This year our goal is to raise $75,000 in pledges and donations. Did you know that if each participant raised just $20 that we would surpass our pledging total of the last 4 years? It’s true! Every penny you raise goes directly to the donation total that helps the children of our community. Visit the pledging and donations page for your pledge form or to donate.

First-aid – First-aid services are available at the designated tent on the CHEO BBQ site. In case of emergency, please ask any one of our volunteers for help. Please be sure to wear sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.

Food & Drink – Bytown Catering BBQ pit and Kelsey’s beer tent opens at 11 a.m. The BBQ pit will be serving steak dinners starting from 3 p.m.  Be sure to get your food and beverage tickets.
If you drink…please drink responsibly.

Front Gate – opens at 7:30 a.m.

Go Green –

  • Bring a drink container that can be used throughout the day for water. And reuse your plastic cup (or bring your own) in the beer tent
  • Help us recycle – there are plenty of recycle bins onsite and make sure to sort your waste into the appropriate bins
  • Leave your car at home and take the free shuttle
  • Pledge online – raise money for the kids at CHEO with our easy to use online pledging system

Lost Child – Please notify a CHEO BBQ volunteer immediately if you have lost a child.

Money – Onsite ATM is available.

Music – Enjoy music all day courtesy of Quality Entertainment

Parking & Shuttle Service – Free shuttle service provided by Leduc Bus Lines from Gloucester Centre (Entrance #1 – entrance to the food court, located directly across from the OC Transpo station) is available and recommended. Pickup from Shefford Park will remain the same as 2012, at the front of Potvin Arena. The shuttle schedule is available here.

Safety – Please respect all security signs and fencing in and around the CHEO BBQ site.

Schedule of events –
7:30-8 a.m. – Registration
8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. – Volleyball and ultimate Frisbee tournaments begin
9-10:30 a.m. – 5km family walk presented by RBC (begins at main gate)
9 a.m. – Event kick off and thank with Mayor Jim Watson (main gate)
10 a.m. – Wireless AMBER Alerts Family Fun Zone opens
10 a.m. – Silent auction opens
10:45-11 a.m. – Meet and Greet with VIPs including sponsors, city officials, etc.
10:45 a.m. – CHEO Telethon 2012 cheque presentation on CTV
11 a.m. – Bytown Catering barbecue pit opens
11:30 a.m. – Kelsey’s Beer tent opens
5-6 p.m. – Team awards
7 p.m. – Event concludes

Silent Auction – Onsite silent auction begins at 10 a.m. where you can bid on such items as: hotel stays, gift certificates, art, memorabilia, etc. Checkout the complete list and get ready to bid (cash and/or credit accepted).

Smoking – The City of Ottawa smoke-free regulations will be in effect, therefore, the entire CHEO BBQ site will be non-smoking. To review the City of Ottawa regulations, please click here

Sponsors – Please support the many CHEO BBQ sponsors that make this event possible and successful.

Tents – You can bring a tent to CHEO BBQ, however, please do not peg into the ground.

Tickets – Only $5 at the door. Registered sports and walk participants’ admission is included you’re your registration (be sure to wear the bracelet provided). Kids under the age of 12 are free.

Volunteers – There are over 200 volunteers (wearing bright CHEO BBQ t-shirts) at CHEO BBQ, feel free to ask them for help, etc.

Washrooms – Fully accessible washrooms are available throughout the CHEO BBQ site. 

Weather – Check the forecast and dress appropriately. Event (volleyball, ultimate and walk) takes place rain or shine. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
